How it Works

OceanWay will deliver natural gas from Australia and elsewhere to the Los Angeles region through a ship and buoy system that is offshore and out of sight.

Specially built ships will receive cargos of natural gas in liquid form from carriers far offshore. The ships will connect to one of two submerged buoys located 27 miles from Los Angeles' coastline and more than 5 miles beyond shipping lanes. These ships will convert the gas from liquid back into its gaseous state. Using the buoys as funnels, natural gas will flow into dual pipelines that will run along the ocean floor.

Onshore, the gas will travel in secure underground pipelines for about four miles and flow into the existing Southern California Gas Co. pipeline system.
