Protecting Marine Life

Woodside Natural Gas is committed to protecting and preserving the environment. Marine life experts have determined OceanWay would have a minimal impact on marine life.

OceanWay is located far from established whale migratory routes and away from marine sanctuaries. Precautions will be taken to sustain the marine environment during construction and operation.

During construction, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries-approved marine mammal observer will be on site to halt work if a marine mammal is spotted within a 500-foot safety zone. OceanWay crews will receive marine mammal awareness training and will be directed to avoid marine life.

During daily operations, extensive marine wildlife protections will be incorporated into facility operations to further maximize marine protection. Trained marine monitors will be aboard the ships to ensure the safety of marine life and seabirds.
